Terms of Use

These terms cover use of The Vault, an independent third-party Jellyfin-compatible personal media client for Roku. The Vault is a player. It comes with no movies and no television of its own, and there is no Vault account to create. You point it at a Jellyfin server you own or are authorized to use, and it plays what is on that server. By using the app you agree to these terms.

What The Vault is, and what it is not

The Vault is software that plays media from a Jellyfin-compatible server of your choosing. It is not a streaming service, a library, or a content provider.

• We supply no content. We do not host, licence, distribute or curate any film, television programme or other media. Everything you see in the app comes from the server you connected to.
• There is no account with us. Installing the app does not create an account with KAW, and we do not issue credentials. You sign in to your server, using an account that server's operator has given you.
• We do not control your server. What is in your library, what you are permitted to do there, and whether the server is available at all are matters for that server and whoever runs it.

If you do not have access to a Jellyfin server, the app has nothing to play. That is a practical limitation of what a player is, not a restriction we impose on who may install or use the software.

Your server and your account

You are responsible for having lawful authorization to use whatever server you connect to, and for the media on it. Only connect to a server you own or have been given permission to use.

Keep your sign-in credentials to yourself. Those credentials belong to your server, not to us — we never receive them. You are responsible for activity carried out with your account on that server.

If the server you use is operated by someone else, your access to it is governed by whatever rules that operator sets, and they may change, suspend or withdraw it. That arrangement is between you and them; it is not something these terms control or that we can influence.

Rules set by a particular server are not rules of this app

Some servers — including the private household server the app's authors run for their own family — impose their own conditions: who may hold an account, whether accounts may be shared, what may be requested or removed, and when access may be revoked. Those conditions apply only to that server. They are not terms of The Vault, they do not restrict anyone else's use of the app, and nothing in a particular server's house rules limits your right to use this software with a server of your own.

Acceptable use

You must use The Vault lawfully, and you must comply with all laws that apply to you. You must not:

• use the app to reach a server, account, library or data you have not been granted access to;
• attempt to bypass, escalate, or otherwise defeat the permission checks a server applies;
• abuse, overload, or automate against a server's interfaces;
• attack, probe, or attempt to disrupt infrastructure you do not own or operate; or
• interfere with anyone else's use of a server you share.

Requests and media management, where a server offers them

Some Jellyfin deployments run additional software for requesting titles or reporting storage use. Where a server offers that and your account is permitted to use it, the matching controls appear in the app; where it does not, they are simply absent. What you may browse, request or remove is determined by your account's permissions on that server, and enforced by that server.

Where your account is permitted to remove media, removal is a real and intentional action: it affects stored media, it may free storage attributed to your account, and it may affect other people using that server who could watch that title. The Vault shows you a preview of these effects and requires you to confirm before anything is removed. Please read that preview.

Availability

The Vault is provided as-is and as-available. There is no guarantee that the app, any particular feature, or any particular server will be available, or will remain available. The app may be changed, interrupted, or discontinued at any time, and a server you rely on may change or remove content independently of us.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the publisher is not liable for loss or damage arising from use of, or inability to use, the app — including loss of media, requests, or playback history, or anything arising from the operation of a server the app connects to.

Roku's role

Roku provides the device and channel platform. Roku does not operate The Vault, does not control the app or the media it plays, and is not responsible for it or for any support relating to it. Support for The Vault comes from the publisher — see the support page.

Jellyfin

The Vault is an independent, third-party client. It is not the official Jellyfin app for Roku, and it is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by the Jellyfin project. "Jellyfin" is used only to describe the kind of server the app is compatible with.

Open-source software

The Vault's Roku client is a modified derivative of open-source software and includes components licensed under the GNU General Public License and other open-source licenses. Nothing in these terms is intended to limit, override, or take away any right you have under those licenses; for the portions of the client covered by them, those licenses control, including their provisions on source availability and warranty disclaimers. The applicable notices are distributed with the client source.

These terms govern your use of the Vault application — not your rights in the open-source code itself, and not the media on any server you connect to.

Privacy

The app sends your credentials and playback activity to the server address you entered and nowhere else. There is no analytics, advertising identifier or third-party tracking in it, and no server belonging to the app's authors for it to report to. The privacy policy sets this out in full.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated as the app evolves. The "last updated" date above will change when they are.
